How to adopt the 70's trend without making a mistake?

How to adopt the 70's trend without making a mistake?

You couldn't miss it: for a few seasons now, the 70s have been in fashion. Whether on the cover of magazines or on the catwalks of the biggest Houses, everyone seems to be obsessed with the seventies spirit. If Alessandro Michele had foreseen this turn in fashion back in 2018 through his creations for Gucci, the other brands finally followed suit and since then, it's 70's fever all over the fashion sphere. To add a bit of the 70's in your style, you just have to rely on very recognizable pieces that can easily be assimilated to this blessed era of fashion. Clothing and accessories will allow you to twist your look and give it a seventies signature. Follow our tips and find out how to embrace this season's most desirable trend.

For a 70's look, we bet on flared pants

If there is one piece that immediately gives a vintage and trendy look to your silhouette, it is the flared pants. Whether it's flare or bell-bottoms, they'll give your look a seventies tone without too much effort, while sculpting a dreamy silhouette and endless legs.

  • To find the perfect pants, you have to try several. More or less flared, try different models to find the one that will best flatter your waist and your legs.
  • As far as materials are concerned, several choices are possible: in a casual hippie spirit, we choose jeans (preferably raw), in an assumed vintage spirit, we orient our choice towards a chic corduroy piece and in a more pointed fashion spirit, we allow ourselves leather flared pants.
  • You can also opt for printed pants: this will allow you to create a look inspired by the 70s both sharp and very current while playing with different colors.
  • The detail that will make the difference: we add a belt with a large buckle in a chic western spirit, completed by a pair of shoes or boots in the same style.

The timeless blazer with large epaulets for a resolutely 70's look

The broad-shouldered jacket is undeniably a must-have piece when you want to compose a seventies look. Associated with flare pants, it will give you a look directly inspired by the 70's icons that we admire so much: from Elton John to Cher through Catherine Deneuve or Farah Fawcett.

Easy to wear on a daily basis, the epaulette jacket goes with everything: a leather skirt, jeans, a pair of more elaborate pants... It's the perfect versatile piece to have in your wardrobe. A word to remember with this piece: boldness. We dare the collar pie, the sequins or the outrageously large shoulder pads. Do not forget that this decade represents the disco and all the sartorial madness.

  • Opt for a jacket with broad shoulders in a vintage spirit.
  • As for materials, choose velvet, canvas or glitter, perfect for the evening.
  • If the classic shawl collar has a timeless side, prefer the notched collars or pie shell for a 70's spirit.
  • Make sure that the cut is rather tight and long, a jacket too oversized may break the vintage spirit of the silhouette.
  • The little fashion detail: you can belt your jacket with a silk scarf to distribute the volumes of your silhouette and emphasize the waist while bringing a chic touch.

The 70's must-have accessory: sunglasses

To go further, you must absolutely bet on a pair of glasses in the spirit of the 70s. It's the detail that will hit the bull's eye and finish your silhouette perfectly. The ideal would be to have several pairs in order to change glasses according to your look and thus propose compositions always more pointed.

  • The golden rule to have glasses in the spirit of the 70's: choose large frames, quite imposing.
  • We allow ourselves all the follies: rounded, square, butterfly ... Vary the pleasures according to your desires and dare to colors.
  • Tortoiseshell glasses are definitely a must-have for a seventies look.
  • If you wear glasses on a daily basis, you can even go into more detail when choosing your eyewear.

What shoes to wear for a 70's style ?

The sneakers are not reserved for the years 2000 and following. In the 70's, many were those who had (already) adopted the Stan Smith. But then again, there are many ways to incorporate the 70's trend into your wardrobe with your pair of shoes: it all depends on your style.

  • For the sportsmen, we bet on white Sneakers in a vintage spirit. The colors and printed patterns are also welcome.
  • Fans of the hippie bohemian style will throw their lot in with tropezian shoes or wedge heeled sandals to stay fashionable while being comfortable. Clogs, ultra-trendy shoes, are also in order.
  • Lovers of the western trend will find their happiness by wearing boots santiags. All the craziness is allowed: you can throw on a low model or on high boots - which marry perfectly with a jean short.
  • For more classic styles, why not wear pretty ballerinas or sandals like Brigitte Bardot in the streets of Saint-Tropez? Be sure to choose ballerinas with a short vamp so as not to weigh down the leg.

The fashion piece that will make the difference: the wicker basket

One accessory remains linked to the 70s: the wicker basket. If our grandmothers used it to go berry picking, Jane Birkin made the piece highly desirable, putting it on par with the trendiest It Bags.

In the middle of the summer season, there's nothing better than a wicker basket to accompany you on your daily peregrinations. If you don't like the rigid side, you can easily opt for a jute bag or a more flexible basket, to stay in the seventies spirit.
