Where does the brand Secrid come from?
The brand Secrid was created by two Dutch designers, René van Geer and Marianne van Sasse van Ysselt. The duo, who ran a fashion and design agency at the time, launched their first secure card holder in 1995. In 2003, their famous card holder was officially named Secrid, a variation of the agency's name, Spirid. The first version of the Cardprotector was launched in 2009 and won the Red Dot Design Award a year later, in 2010.

Where are the card holders made? Secrid
Secrid cardholders are made in the Netherlands, in workshops in Leiden, Delft and Haarlem. The leathers are designed in Germany, Italy and mainly in the Netherlands.
-
Are the Secrid card holders really secure?
The Secrid card holders feature a patented aluminium mechanism, the "Cardprotector", which prevents the data from the RFID and NFC chips on your bank cards being recovered. Thanks to this system, the cards cannot be copied, read or remotely activated with an RFID reader, a type of equipment used by some fraudsters to steal data.
In addition, the contactless function of your CB is also protected. The Secrid card holder slides your card only a few centimetres, making its signal too weak to be picked up by a fraudster. On the other hand, you will have no difficulty in paying for your purchases using contactless technology.
-
How many cards can be stored in a card holder Secrid ?
The Cardprotector Secrid can hold between 4 and 6 cards. However, some cardholders can hold more cards thanks to their leather outer shell:
- Up to 10 cards for the Miniwallet and Twinwallet;
- Up to 12 cards for the Slimwallet.
-
Are Secrid card holders designed to hold paper cards?
The Cardprotector is not suitable for paper cards, such as business cards, as they could interfere with the mechanism. It is specially designed for standard plastic cards the size of credit cards. -
How to use a card holder Secrid ?
To use your card holder Secrid correctly, hold it in one hand and use your little finger to pull the small latch downwards. This simple action will allow you to pull your cards out safely.
We advise you to place your contactless payment card in the last position to facilitate its use.
-
How do you best store your banknotes in your Secrid wallet?
There's no single answer, because storage, including ticket storage, depends on personal preferences that are defined as you use the product. However, we can suggest two methods:
- Slide your bills horizontally to avoid bending them.
- Or open the Moneyflap and place the bills upright.
-
How to clean a card holder Secrid ?
The Cardprotector housing is made of anodised aluminium, plastic and stainless steel. It is waterproof. We recommend that you clean it with a soft cloth and soap, then rinse it with warm water. Be sure to keep it away from sea water as the salt may damage the metals. If you come into contact with salt water, we recommend that you immediately rinse the case with fresh water. Be sure to dry the mechanism thoroughly before using it again.
Some cardholders Secrid are made of water-repellent leather and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Non-water-repellent models, on the other hand, must be cleaned with a dry cloth.

How to recognize a real Secrid from a counterfeit?
There is a very simple way to ensure that you are buying a genuine Secrid product: check that there is a unique serial number engraved inside the aluminium casing. You can register this number online on the official brand website. After registering, you will receive a certificate of authenticity by e-mail and a third year of warranty.
To ensure the authenticity of your card holder Secrid, you can also check whether your retailer is listed as an official retailer on the Secrid website.
